Stream audio on PS5 — and the GTA radio problem
Mic setup, the broadcast mixer, and the copyright trap every GTA streamer needs to think about: licensed radio music can get VODs muted or claimed.
Viewers forgive average video instantly and bad audio never. On a console stream your audio chain is short — which means each piece matters more.
The mic
- Any decent headset beats the controller mic. The DualSense's built-in mic works in a pinch, but it sits at arm's length and picks up every button press. A headset puts the mic where your voice is.
- A USB mic is the budget upgrade with the biggest jump. The PS5 takes standard USB mics; even an entry-level one changes how professional you sound.
- Set levels in Settings → Sound → Microphone — talk at your real streaming volume and keep the meter out of the red.
The mix
While broadcasting, the Create menu's broadcast options let you balance game audio vs. your voice and choose whether party chat goes to the stream. Two rules:
- Your voice sits on top. If chat has to choose between hearing you and hearing the game, you lose.
- Decide the party-audio question before going live, every time. Friends forget they're broadcast; clips are forever.
The radio problem
This one is GTA-specific and it's real: the series is famous for licensed radio music, and licensed music is exactly what platform copyright systems hunt. Across prior GTA titles, streamers saw Twitch VODs muted and YouTube videos claimed over in-game radio audio. Nobody outside Rockstar knows yet how GTA6 will handle it — some games ship a streamer-safe audio mode; some don't.
What to do about it, honestly:
- Check the audio settings on day one for anything labeled streamer mode, broadcast-safe music, or per-station volume — and turn the radio down or off before long driving sections if you care about your VODs surviving.
- Assume your VOD is the risk surface. Live enforcement is rare; muted or claimed VODs and clips are common. If a clip matters to you, prefer moments without radio blasting.
- Watch this page. When GTA6's actual audio options are known, this guide gets updated with specifics instead of precedent.
None of this should scare you off streaming — the entire GTA streaming ecosystem lives with it. It should just inform which ten seconds you clip and how loud the radio is when you do.
